About the event
Join Wild Rivers ISC in a hands-on volunteer workday!
Through a project funded by Dickinson Area Community Foundation and Circle Power, we're working to improve the recreational habitat of the Groveland Recreation Area - and you can help! On Saturday, September 27th, from 9:30 am to 12pm, we will be removing invasive Autumn Olive from along trails and access roads.
Autumn Olive is a highly invasive shrub that dominates forest edge habitats and spreads quickly by producing a ton of seeds. While the berries may seem beneficial to wildlife, they offer little nutritional value as compared to our native berry-producing shrubs. Autumn Olive also has large thorns that make it difficult to navigate through or recreate near as it encroaches on trail systems and access.
